Niagara Falls, flow of life

My 2011 trip to the Niagara Horseshoe Falls impressed me with the waterfalls’ breath-taking natural spectacle, reminding me about the flow of life. Following the river’s path above, through and below the falls reminded me about life – how calm, how rough, how beautiful, how painful and how nicely it can flow. The image reflects beautifully how, while flowing smoothly, life can slowly gain speed and then, all of a sudden, you are in free fall – landing hard, whirling around! From there, it gets calmer and, once you somehow recover your balance and get back into your flow, you maybe get a brief rest, only to gain speed again just a short moment later. Even though life might sometimes get rough, it has its beauty and its transformational effects.

At the Niagara Falls, you also get a bit dizzy due to the negative ions – it feels like the extreme high you experience when falling in love, when you are full of joy due to a new job or promo or when you have fulfilled a desire and are extremely happy! The Niagara Falls always remind me how life can take a sudden 90-degree turn. In that moment, it often feels like a whirlpool. It is just like certain states and emotions we experience and live through in life.

We as humans find it hard to be as fluid and to surrender in the way water naturally does. On top of this, we carry belief systems, effects and learnings of earlier situations, which we sometimes project onto the present or future. That is the point where each of us experiences diverse states and situations in life extremely differently. While some get through these situations with ease, others get stuck or even break.

So, we do our best to flow through all that life throws at us and make the best of it! Diving into what is there and decluttering the space can help you make it even better!
